What is the difference between an optician, an optometrist and an ophthalmologist?

An optometrist is an eye doctor who can examine, diagnose and treat eyes.

An ophthalmologist is a medical doctor who can perform medical and surgical interventions for eye conditions.

An optician is a professional who is qualified to fit and dispenses eyeglasses, contact lenses and other vision-correcting devices. An optician carries out the prescriptions of an optometrist or an ophthalmologist.
